Minecraft allows players to completely transform gameplay through the use of Forge or Fabric mods. These mods can introduce new creatures or building blocks into the game, among many other possibilities. Most players use modpacks, extensive collections of mods to create a unique experience. However, sometimes features that you or others want might be missing from the pack. This leads to adding mods to the modpack, making it even bigger. The process for doing this varies depending on your launcher, which can be a bit confusing for new modders. With this in mind, we at PixelHost have created this tutorial to show you how to add mods to a modpack through popular launchers.

🔍 Finding and Downloading Mods

Before attempting to add modifications to modpacks, you’ll want to make sure you’ve downloaded the correct ones. In other words, ensure you’re getting mods for the correct game version, type, and all their dependencies. We highly recommend reviewing our guide for safely and properly downloading the desired mods. Also, make sure to save these files somewhere easily accessible on your computer, as it will make it easier to add them to your modpack.

📦 Adding Mods to a ModPack

Whether you want to customize small or large modpacks, adding additional mods is something most players attempt to do. This changes some features of the pack, which some may feel are necessary to have more suitable gameplay experiences. Others may simply experiment with mod combinations to see what works best for them. Whatever your reason, doing this is different for each launcher, which can cause some confusion. Fortunately, all these clients have user-friendly interfaces that make the process easy. Choose your launcher from the sections below to start adding more mods to your desired modpack.

  5. Continue dragging and dropping your desired mods into this newly opened window.

⚠️ Common Issues:

❌ Minecraft Crashes

After adding mods to a pack and the game or launcher crashes, you may have overlooked a required dependency. These are modifications that depend on others for compatibility. Sometimes, there may be several mods you need to install in addition to the main one you want. Usually, these dependencies are found in the Relations tab on the CurseForge page of the mod, but they can also be in the description. However, the game can sometimes crash due to incompatible mods. This rarely happens, but it’s something you can’t fix due to the mod’s design preventing a successful launch.

🔗 Connection Refused

Make sure to add mods to the server when you’ve done so in your launcher, as this is necessary for a stable connection. Otherwise, you’ll be rejected due to a mismatched mod list error. Essentially, the server and client must have the same mods unless specified for one or the other. Once all modifications are aligned on both ends, join the server to see if it works.
