In Minecraft Survival, whether you’re a builder, miner, or redstone engineer, you’ll eventually face the same problem: running out of resources for your builds or suddenly needing an item you haven’t found yet. Chest shops can be the best way to solve this problem. They offer a quick and convenient way for players to trade items instead of spending hours mining. The ChestShop plugin takes this idea even further by securing your shops from potential thieves and integrating them with economy plugins like EssentialsX. Setting up a shop for the first time might seem intimidating, so in this guide, we’ll show you how to install and use the ChestShop plugin on your PixelHost server.

📝 Overview:

The ChestShop plugin expands the basic concept of a chest shop to prevent theft and item lag. Players can create physical shops using nothing more than a sign and a chest. These shops can only be modified by the creator or a server admin and rely on economy plugins to handle transactions. This prevents shops from being damaged or looted by malicious players while you build a thriving shopping district.

📥 Plugin Download:

  1. Go to the ChestShop Spigot page.

  2. Click the blue Download button in the top right corner.

  3. Save the file in a safe location for later.

  4. Repeat this process with Vault and any economy plugin of your choice.

You'll receive a file named something like ChestShop.jar. Once this is done, you’re ready to add the jar files to your Minecraft server!

🔗 Dependencies:

ChestShop requires Vault and some type of economy plugin to function. The creator of ChestShop has several recommendations that you can find here. For new server owners, we recommend EssentialsX as it includes a very basic economy system.

🚀 Server Installation:

  1. Go to your PixelHost Server Panel, then stop the server.

  2. Scroll down to the Game File section and take note of the server version.

  3. Ensure the version is compatible with plugins, such as PaperMC or Spigot.

  4. Next, go to FTP File Access on the left-hand menu and log in.

  5. Locate or create the plugins folder, then enter it.

  6. Press Upload in the top-left menu, then drag and drop the .jar file(s).

  7. Once it reaches 100%, return to the main panel page, then restart the server.

🛒 How to Create a ChestShop in Minecraft

Using the ChestShop plugin is fairly straightforward. Creating a shop can be done by following the steps below:

  1. Place a chest where you want the shop to be and fill it with the items you wish to sell.

  2. Place a sign on the chest and press the Return key to skip the first line.

  3. On the second line, write the quantity of items you want to sell at once. For example, if you want to sell 16 carrots at a time, write 16 on the second line of the sign.

  4. On the third line, write the letter B followed by the price you want to set for your items. In our case, we’ve set the buy price to 14.

  5. (Optional) After the buy price, write a colon : followed by an S and your sell price. This will allow players to sell the item back to you. In our example, we’ve set the sell price to 7.

  6. Place a question mark (?) on the last line of the sign and close the sign editor. Bugs’ carrot shop is now ready for business.

  7. The question mark will change to the name of the item in the chest, and the top line will fill in with the username of the player who created the shop. Players will be able to start using the shop immediately.

❓ Common Issues

  1. My shop doesn’t do anything when a player clicks on it.

    • This often happens because there isn’t an economy for the plugin to use. Make sure you have both Vault and some type of economy plugin like EssentialsX installed on the server.

  2. My server lags after placing a shop.

    • Having too many chests on a server at once can cause a lot of lag. Switching to Paper can help resolve many of these issues. Our optimization guide is also specifically created for Paper servers experiencing lag.

  3. I’m getting an “internal exception” error when trying to use the plugin.

    • This can happen when the plugin doesn’t load correctly. Stop the server from your control panel, then try reinstalling the plugin.

🏆 Conclusion

Shops are a popular feature on multiplayer servers. They allow new players to access essential resources and let veteran players avoid hours of mining. They’re also a great way to build or expand your server’s economy without worrying about items being stolen from your shop chests. With the help of this guide and the ChestShop plugin, you’re ready to start a trading empire on your PixelHost server.
