One of the biggest concerns for server owners is lag. Lag can be caused by various reasons, such as what players build, collect, and mine on your server or by the hardware running your server. However, if you’re hosting with PixelHost, hardware shouldn’t be an issue. Certain Spigot plugins can help reduce lag caused by resources or players, and ClearLagg is one of the most common plugins for any type of Minecraft server. Essentially, what it does is allow you to remove problematic entities that may exist on your server. Maybe someone dropped thousands of items in a single chunk, causing your server to lag. This plugin clears dropped entities, ensuring your server runs smoothly.

Note: Plugins require your server to run a Paper (recommended) or Spigot jar file to load ClearLagg on your server.

🔧 How to Install ClearLagg

  • Ensure your server is running Paper or Spigot. You can verify this in the jar file dropdown menu in the game control panel.

  • Install via Plugin List:

    • On the left side of the game panel, click on the Plugins List tab.

    • Type "Clearlagg" in the search by name and scroll until you find it. Then click on it to open the download page.

    • At the bottom of the page, check the version you have selected. It’s good to cross-check this with the official Bukkit or Spigot page.

    • Find the correct version in the version dropdown menu, select it, and press install.

    • Return to the Game Panel and restart your server. You can verify if the plugin was installed correctly by typing "pl" in the console.

  • Install via FTP:

    • Once the file has been downloaded, place it in an easy-to-find location, such as your desktop or a folder for later use.

    • Go to the official ClearLagg page on Spigot and, since there is no files tab, this means that as long as your server version is listed, you can click download.

    • Go to the Game Panel and click on FTP File Access on the left side of the panel.

    • Once logged into FTP File Access, you’ll see a list of your files. Open the plugins folder and click Upload in the top left of the page.

    • Drag your plugin to the right side of the page and wait for it to reach 100%.

    • Return to the Game Panel and restart your server. The plugin should now be installed. You can verify this by typing "pl" in the console.

⚙️ Commands

🛠️ Configuration File

If you make changes, be sure to stop your server first, then click save on the page before starting or restarting your server. You can find your configuration file by going to the Config tab on the left side of the main panel page, then looking for your ClearLagg configuration and clicking on the plugin name. Most things in the configuration file are disabled by default, and any line with a "#" at the beginning is also disabled.

Broadcast Message:One of the most common configuration changes is the broadcast message. If you want to change the messages that are broadcasted or disable them, you’ll need to scroll down to the "auto-removal" section of the configuration document, where you’ll find the "broadcast-message" and the "warnings" section, both of which can be changed to your liking. Make sure to follow the given format.

Entities:Another part of the configuration you might want to modify is the entities removed during lag clearing. In the configuration, locate the auto-removal: section. Below it, you’ll see some items listed and set to true or false. You can enable and disable which entities you want to remove during lag clearing. For example, if you want to prevent minecarts from being removed, look for minecart: true and set it to false.

You can find a detailed configuration guide here.

🏆 Conclusion

ClearLagg is one of the most essential plugins for Minecraft servers, as it significantly helps with lag reduction, which is a key part of running a public server. This plugin is great because it doesn’t require much configuration, but if you want to configure it in more detail, that’s also possible. Remember that plugins won’t work unless your server is running Spigot or Paper.
